Egyptian VISA

Egypt offers different type of Visa depending on the duration of your stay, here are the possibilities :

15 days and less + your are staying in Sinai :

If you come to Dahab for 15 days and less and you are not planning to travel outside of Sinai you can take the 15 days free visa when you arrive at the airport.

It’s just a stamp in your passeport, no need to do anything online.

Please note that it’s only available in Sinai so if you plan to go to Cairo, read the next part.

44 days maximum and/or planning to travel in Egypt (outside of Sinai) :
You can buy the 1 month visa sticker at the airport when you arrive at Sharm El Sheik Airport (no need to do it online). It costs 25$ and you can stay up to 44 days in Egypt.

There is a bank counter where you can buy it, before the police checkpoint, in front of it.

You can pay cash in $, € or credit card.

For more than 45 days, up to 6 months :

If you want to stay more than 45 days you can apply for a 6 months tourist residency card.

Depending on your nationality you can have 3 or 6 months and you may need to do an interview with the police.

Here is the protocole :
You need to buy the 1 month visa stickers when you arrive at SSH airport
You need to come in Egypt with $ or €
Go to the bank to change your $ or € for EGP : you need to have 7500 EGP (125€)
Tell the bank that it’s for the visa office, they will put a special stamp on the bank paper
Make 3 copies of : your passeport (identity page), your 1 month visa stickers (in your passeport), the bank paper
Take 1 identity picture
Go to the visa office in Sharm el Sheik to apply (check the opening hours and day before)
You’ll have to return to the visa office (approx 10 days after) to have your visa card.

It takes around 2 weeks and then you need to go back to pick up your residency card.

If you overstay your visa (any visa), you will have to pay a fee of 7020 EGP when you leave at the airport, smiling and batting your eyelashes won’t work.

SIM / INTERNET

(How to stay connected)

SIM cards are on sale at the airport just before the exit and can also be purchased in Dahab (faster and more afordable).

The suppliers are as follows : WE / Etisalat / Vodafone / Orange.

The purchase of a simcard is not mandatory, however, and almost all cafes and restaurants will provide you free WIFI access, as well as your accomodation.

MONEY

(Because it's important !)

The city is very well equiped with ATMs.

You will find Credit Agricole ATM where you can have 8000EGP maximum at the same time and you will be charged 310EGP per withdrawal.

You will find National Bank of Egypt / Bank of Cairo where you can have 3000 or 4000EGP max per withdrawal but with no ATM fees.

It’s also possible to pay by credit card on the spot, but we don’t recommend this as it adds 3% commission to each transaction.

To avoid exchange or withdrawal charges, you ca bring $ or € and exchange them directly to the bank in Dahab.

Important : you will need your passport for the bank.

If you are staying long term you can find water on delivery with 20L returnable water bottle.

You first pay a deposit for the bottle and after you just pay for the water.
